Autoimmune conditions of the skin can present in a myriad of ways, from thickening and hardening of the skin, to blistering skin disorders. Dermatologists are medical specialists who are trained in diagnosing and managing these less common rashes, ranging from cutaneous lupus erythematosus to blistering conditions such as bullous pemphigoid.
Many of these dermatoses can affect special sites, such as the oral cavity, armpits and flexures or genital skin. Such conditions occasionally evade diagnosis for a long period of time. Given there may be internal system associations, our Dermatologists may screen for other medical conditions on first presentation or perform other tests, such as a skin biopsy.
